Think fast, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! So, to show you all some love and appreciation for following along we are giving away ONE handmade art piece ”I…you because…” (first shown here).
Shown in great use here by the mister…
And by me…(yes I did write that I appreciated my husband so I could get my hair done).
How do you win? All you have to do is like our page on Facebook – Middle Redefined, and comment on the post that you “liked” Middle Redefined and you will be in the running. If you have already “liked” our page you are still in the running – simply comment that you have “already liked” and your name will go in the hat. If you would like for me to mail this to someone else as a gift I will be more than happy to do that as well. I will pull a lucky winner out of a hat this Friday, Jan. 31st at 5p.m. CST- (this will probably be done by my two year old) and get the lucky winners address at that point.
NOTE: The winner will receive a 12×12 handmade art piece – which does not include the frame – you can find a 12×12 frame at a local craft store for under $10. I bought mine at Michaels.
Our mantle is our focal point in our living room. To see how I traditionally style the mantle check out this post. Now that we are in the holiday season I wanted to share with you my holiday mantle decor. And to no surprise I tend to gravitate towards a neutral color palette. I add a bit of sparkle to add some flair and a little sparkle is so pretty with all the white lights surrounding and providing reflection.
The stockings are from Pottery Barn but are now sold out. These are similar (the ivory ones) and are on sale and I love the texture.
The garland and wreath I bought bare from Michaels for 50% off and then added lights, neural variety of ornaments and other fun neutral holiday accessories in the holiday section at Michaels.
Jill and I hope all of you had a fabulous holiday! If you’re wondering how my gravy turned out last week, it was delicious!! I mean, this is definitely what a Thanksgiving plate should look like, loaded up with pretty much everything.
While the majority of the country was pulling out their Christmas decorations this weekend, I used my extra days off work to finally complete some stuff in my master bedroom! I’m so happy with the way it all is turning out. I hope you like it too!
Here’s our new bed with our custom pillows dressing it up.
I found the bed on a Joss and Main sale. I can not for the life of me remember the site I got it from, so I’m sorry I don’t have a link to share. If someone really wants it, I’ll try and dig it out of my emails. Our adorable coral shams are from Biscuit bedding. And then one of my relatives monogrammed them for us. I found the mint Greek key fabric from a local fabric store in their remnant sale area. I lucked out that I found just enough to cover some old lumbar pillows. The mix of charcoal, coral, and mint makes me so happy. And I love how it all pops against our white walls.
I also finally found a basket to gather all my husband’s clothes that never make it into the laundry hamper. I scored it for $40 at Marshalls, and I love the rustic wood with nail heads. As you can see, he’s already putting it to good use.
The final touch to this whole setup were framed menus from two of our favorite places. Both are speakeasy-type bars – Manifesto in Kansas City and the Gin Joint in Charleston, SC. They add the last little bit of personalization to this area of our room.
My little man likes it all so much he decided to join in on the photo shoot as well!
What do you think?? I’ll be sharing more from the bedroom/bathroom makeover throughout the next few weeks.
Yesterday I was on the hunt for a large basket I could set next to our bed. The purpose of said basket is for my husband to have a place he can throw all the clothes he can’t possibly get into our laundry basket. I mean, the laundry basket is a LONG ways away in our closet. My solution to this battle is to create a space for him to toss everything.
Well, I didn’t find the basket I wanted. However, I walked into Home Decorators Collection, and fell in love with the Peacock-inspired holiday theme they had. My holiday decor is pretty neutral, so this was a feast for my creative spirit.

How fabulous are these peacock feather trees???

Regardless of the holiday theme, I so want this couch!!!
Right next to the gorgeous jewel-toned holiday setup was something a bit more in line with my home aesthetic. I want these salvage wood trees so badly. They’re $80 a piece right now, but I’m hoping to catch them on sale closer to Christmas.

And this side table is the perfect combo of reclaimed wood and metal. It’s even on casters! I should put this on my Christmas list.

Hope you all are having fun getting into the holiday decorating spirit!
For my birthday in October, I asked for some decorating books. I know I’m really exciting. And my wonderful friend, Amber, got me my latest favorite – “I Brake for Yard Sales” by Lara Spencer. Lara is a host on Good Morning America, she’s a decorator on the side, and she also hosts one of my favorite new shows, Flea Market Flip.
Even though Lara has to have loads of money, she’s definitely a redefiner (no, I’m not sure that’s a real word). She loves turning flea market and dumpster finds into new, fresh goodies. Most of the items she shows in her book are ones she found for less than $200!
Here are a few of my favorite inspiration pages from her book. You should pick one up or check it out from the library because it’s well worth it!
We’re so excited to finally share our updated site with you! It feels like it’s taken a while, even though it’s really only been a few weeks. During the past couple of months, Jill and I talked about revamping MiddleRedefined.com and adding a few things, but we didn’t really know how to get that done. However, after working with a college student trying to build his website portfolio, long nights at Jill’s house while our kids screamed endlessly, and Jill’s husband teaching himself html code (thank you so much Kevin!!), we made it!
On this revamped version of MiddleRedefined.com, we have a few new features to share with you.
1. We have a fresh, new look. What do you think? We searched and searched for a template that we would love, and we found ours on BluChic.com. We liked the magazine look of the home page and the clean, photography-heavy layout.
2.Search and subscribe are now available. One of the biggest pieces of feedback that we got with our old site was people wanted a search function and to be able to subscribe. So, we added them! Just scroll down on the home page, and you’ll see them in our sidebar.
3. We just launched design services. We are so grateful for all of you who have joined us at MiddleRedefined.com. We’ve had so many amazing people tell us how much they love the inspiration we’re able to provide. So we decided it was time to take that to the next level! You’ll see on our services page that we are now offering personalized design help. We’ve had so much fun getting to assist several people throughout the past few months with their design dilemnas, and we’d love to partner with you too!
Middle Redefined Services
Be sure to let us know what you think of our new look and feel! And thank you, thank you, thank you again to Jill’s fabulous husband, Kevin, who spents hours making our site look and function exactly the way we wanted. You are amazing!
OK, so with this little ones of course we already have a high chair. Correction – we have one of those chairs that sits on top of a chair. You know what I mean right?! And we love it – it is great (thank you Grandma Nette). BUT, how cool are vintage wood high chairs? And since we have a new little one and our Dax man will still need to be in the other chair thing by the time Jonah starts eating I figured why not search around a bit.
Backtrack a tad- Jonah woke up at 3a.m. Monday morning and wanted to party until 5:30a.m. so I had some time to cruise around the internet while he was coo’ing and smilin’.
I found this beauty on Craigslist of course…
Now sit tight with me on this one – I plan to paint this a BRIGHT high gloss citrus color or lime green. Or perhaps I will play up on the turquoise tray it has on top?
Regardless this beauty has great potential…I think my little “Jonah Bear” (yes that is a nickname not his middle name) will be very happy with his new seat.
What do you think? What color would you go with?
AND I don’t want to spill the beans too quickly but after I refinish this it might decide to sell this in our SHOP. EEK, get excited! The Middle Redefined online shop coming soon!
I’m crazy for Fall. It’s my favorite time of year. The weather is crisp and cool, we get to start wearing boots again, and there’s pumpkin everything to eat. Today I’m going on a pumpkin patch field trip with my son, so it got me thinking about Fall decorating. I found some fun inspiration photos on Pinterest (of course) that I thought I’d share. Enjoy!
Last week I stayed a couple nights in Las Vegas for work. The past couple of times I’ve been there, my colleague and I have been fortunate enough to stay at the Cosmopolitan. I am just so smitten with the decor in their rooms, that I had to share. Apologies that you get photos from my phone, but they still do a good job of showing the fabulousness of Cosmo’s style. With everything from an indigo couch (I so wish I could have fit this in my suitcase and taken it home with me – Jill, I know this color is right up your alley)…
Indigo Couch – Cosmopolitan
to unique bookends. I feel so inspired in this room.
Light Reading – Cosmopolitan
LOVE this distressed leather chair!
Fab Chair – Cosmopolitan
I’m not much of a wallpaper person, but these work so well in this room. One has this grey hue with a shimmery tone.

And who doesn’t love naked ladies forming a strong pattern? I mean, only in Vegas.

And finally, while most hotel beds are simply white with an uninteresting headboard. This one has an upholstered headboard and a navy throw with a simple border around the edge.
Chic Bed – Cosmopolitan
Who knew I’d find a room in Vegas that I’d love to recreate somewhere else? Any takers?
My husband just moved into a new office at work, so he wanted to find some unique chairs that could be used by guests. Since he works in the athletic world, he decided that stadium seats would be a perfect fit. Many of the ones he found online were way too expensive, so of course Craigslist came to the rescue. He landed on these chairs that are being stored at a church in the Ozarks. So we hopped in the car for a Sunday road trip and were so impressed, we bought some for our house too! Even a friend of ours wanted some for his office, so we picked up a couple for him as well.
These guys were originally used at Southwest Baptist University in Springfield. The current owner got the entire gym-full when his brother-in-law needed some new bleachers for the Christian school he runs. In addition to the bleachers, they got gym flooring, stadium seats, and more. It’s all in beautiful condition!
They come as single chairs, double sets, and triple sets. We bought two singles to go in our basement, one double set for our friend’s office, and the triple set will go in my hubby’s office. They were $25 per seat. Such a deal! The cobwebs and spiders hitched a ride as well.
Here they are when we got them home – just needed a little washing.

My hubby used a little wood cleaner and then polish to shine them up.
Here they are, all cleaned up – ready to go to the office! The lines on the side are so great. I love the color of the wood too. They have a few scratches, but we all get more lines as we age, don’t we? Just adds character.
We put the single chairs on either side of our TV in our basement.

Great addition to the man cave. The best part is that my husband absolutely loves them, which made the whole trip so fun. Do you love stadium seats as much as we do?
