Decorating a Long Wall

My friend Katie – the one with the amazing navy and pink wedding – just moved to Dallas from NYC. She and her new hubby are living it up in an apartment until they figure out exactly what part of Dallas in which they want to settle. Katie’s challenge in this space is a long wall that connects her living room with her dining area. Instead of creating two distinct spaces, she decided to do a gallery wall. She did a beautiful job of layering lots of classic neutrals with rustic-looking items.

And even though the gallery wall flows really well from one space to the next, it’s important to ground each area as well. For instance, the mirrow overlooking her dining table helps define the space without closing it off or looking too separated from the living room. After corresponding with Katie about her design challenge and then seeing it completed, I asked Katie if we could her photos with all of you – thankfully, she agreed! These are great inspiration photos for anyone challenged with decorating a long wall that overlooks multiple “rooms.” Enjoy!

Pop of Red…Chairs

While on vacation last week (I think I’ve mentioned 40 times that I was on vacation), I actually got to look through Pinterest a little. I LOVE Pinterest as much as the next person but just don’t have much time to visit it.

When I looked through my “For the Home” section, I noticed that I had pinned several photos that had red dining chairs. Didn’t really know I liked red dining chairs so much, but I guess I do. I have pops of red in my kitchen and have always loved red in kitchens for some reason. I think it might remind me of an old diner…or maybe I just like red in the kitchens. Who knows? Regardless, I thought I would share these photos because I think any time someone can pull in color through a dining chair, it ends up making their space feel more fun.

I adore metallic chairs. I’m bound and determined to have some one day. I love these red ones paired with a rustic table, shown on a site called Fleaing France.

More metallic red chairs - told you they were cool. These were posted originally on a site called Delight by Design.

Love the red bar stools against the white woodwork and teal wall. This photo was originally from House of Turquoise, which is a blog you should definitely check out if you have never been there.

They’re even pretty in a more formal setting, like these ornate chairs painted a glossy red from a Southern Charm page. The color really showcases the detail on the chairs. Love it!

Not sure if red chairs will be in my future, but I obviously like photos that include them. So maybe that means I need some. Hmmm…..
